Donald Trump’s Latest Quest: Annexing Canada and Making it the 51st State
As Americans start to pay closer attention to politics, they are beginning to see that the Donald Trump of 2024 is the same person who ran for office in 2016 and 2020. However, the 2025 version of Trump seems to be a declining old man with a new obsession – acquiring more territory for the United States.
First, there was talk of acquiring Greenland. Then, the Panama Canal came into focus. Now, Trump’s sights are set on annexing Canada and making it the 51st state of the United States.
There seems to be a common thread connecting Trump’s tariffs and his desire to take over Canada. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “We pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars to SUBSIDIZE Canada. Why? There is no reason. We don’t need anything they have. We have unlimited Energy, should make our own Cars, and have more Lumber than we can ever use. Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable Country. Harsh but true! Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State. Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada — AND NO TARIFFS!”
Trump seems to believe that he can cripple the Canadian economy and ultimately destroy the country with hefty tariffs. However, his claims about the US having unlimited energy and an abundance of lumber are misleading. The US relies on energy extraction by corporations and deforestation is not a sustainable solution.
It’s clear that Trump’s plan to take over Canada through tariffs is far-fetched, but his ambitions don’t end there.
