Jon Stewart Mocks Trump’s Trade Tariffs and Plans to Take Over Panama and Greenland

On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart took aim at President Donald Trump‘s trade tariffs and his ambitious plans to take over Panama and Greenland.

Stewart began the segment by showcasing news clips highlighting the potential emergence of a “new trade war” due to Trump’s tariffs on the EU, Canada, and Mexico.

“The EU? Canada? Do we have any friends? I mean, Mexico, I get. Trump’s been hate-fucking Mexico pretty much since the escalator,” Stewart quipped, referencing Trump’s iconic descent down the Trump Tower escalator before announcing his presidential bid in 2015. “But Canada? Ca-nada? We’re picking a fight with our most reliable and pleasant friend? The labradoodle of allies?”

Stewart then shifted his focus to Trump’s grandiose threats of reclaiming the Panama Canal and using military force to acquire Greenland.

“Denmark, Panama, and Canada. We’re America! We used to fight the Nazis. Now we’re scouring the globe for easy targets,” Stewart humorously remarked. “What are we, the Jake Paul of nations? No offense. ‘I know China’s out there, but Panama’s a legitimate fight!’”

Stewart proceeded to play a video clip of Trump criticizing former trade deals with Canada, questioning, “Who the hell made these deals? They’re so bad.”

Continuing his satire, Stewart invited the audience to revisit 2018, showcasing Trump signing a new trade deal to “replace NAFTA with leaders of Mexico and Canada,” while simultaneously hailing it as “the best trade deal ever made.”

“Oh! A deal orchestrated by Trump’s greatest nemesis: ‘Trump,’” Stewart wittily remarked.

Stewart acknowledged that Mexico managed to secure a 30-day tariff exemption by pledging 10,000 troops to the border. Additionally, he mentioned that Trump temporarily halted the Canadian tariffs following last-minute talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
