Two brazen thieves are still on the run after posing as deliverymen and robbing an 88-year-old man in his Bronx apartment last month. The elderly man, who resides in NYCHA’s Mitchel Houses on Willis Avenue in Mott Haven, was targeted by the criminals around 7:20 p.m. on January 19. The perpetrators knocked on his door under the guise of delivering an envelope, but once the door was opened, they forced their way in and pistol-whipped the victim.
After assaulting the senior citizen, the suspects proceeded to tie him up and ransack his home, stealing a cell phone, approximately $28, and a wallet. They then fled the scene in a black 2018 Honda CRV. The violent attack left the elderly man with a head injury, requiring him to be taken to Lincoln Medical Center for stitches. Fortunately, he was listed in stable condition following the incident.
Security footage released by the NYPD showcases the two perpetrators walking through the apartment complex’s hallway. Authorities are urging anyone with information on the robbery to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. Tips can also be submitted online at the CrimeStoppers website or via @NYPDTips on social media.
The brazen attack serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and cautious when dealing with strangers, especially in vulnerable situations. The NYPD is actively seeking to apprehend the suspects responsible for this heinous crime and bring them to justice.
