The Duffer brothers, Matt and Ross, have confirmed that the highly anticipated fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” will indeed be premiering this year. In a recent appearance at the SCAD TVfest, where they received the Variety Showrunners Award, the brothers shared some exciting updates on the progress of the upcoming season.

Ross Duffer revealed that they are currently focusing on the visual effects sequences, which have been in production since January. Surprisingly, they are ahead of schedule, a rare occurrence for the duo. This news suggests that fans may be able to enjoy the new season sooner than expected.

While the release format for the eight episodes is still undecided, Matt Duffer assured fans that the season will be coming out this year. The brothers described the final season as “eight blockbuster movies,” emphasizing their love for big special effects sequences while also highlighting the importance of character development in the series.

The Duffers also reflected on the growth of the young cast members, particularly star Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas. They expressed pride in how the young actors have matured both on and off-screen, forming a close-knit family during the filming of the show.

As they approach the conclusion of “Stranger Things,” the Duffers acknowledged the nostalgia and emotional impact of wrapping up the series. They hinted at potential future projects within the “Stranger Things” franchise, including opportunities in gaming and other mediums.

Additionally, the Duffers are involved as executive producers in upcoming Netflix series such as “The Boroughs” and “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,” showcasing their commitment to supporting new talent in the industry.
