White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt defended her decision to restrict press access to The Associated Press after the news outlet refused to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Leavitt reiterated that the body of water off the coast of Louisiana is officially called the Gulf of America, and called out Google and Apple for complying with the order. The AP sent a warning letter to the White House, stating that the restrictions violated the First Amendment. Executive Editor Julie Pace emphasized that the government cannot retaliate against the press for their speech. Pace also revealed that Leavitt warned an AP reporter of restricted access if they did not align with Trump’s order. We are counting on your support once again.
