The 911 call that led to the arrest of former NFL player Kadarius Toney has revealed disturbing details of an alleged domestic violence incident. The woman who made the call, who remains unidentified, claimed that Toney had strangled her while she was seven months pregnant. The incident took place on January 14 in Douglasville, Georgia, where the woman and Toney were living together.
In the audio released by TMZ, the woman described an “altercation” with Toney where he put his hands on her, even while she was holding their daughter. She mentioned that she had to run to a neighbor’s house to make the 911 call after Toney allegedly prevented her from doing so. According to arrest records, Toney strangled the victim with enough force to cause her to have difficulty breathing.
Toney was arrested on February 6 after warrants were issued the day after the incident. He is facing charges of aggravated assault for strangulation and obstructing/harassing 911 calls. Despite being released on $50,000 bail, the incident has had serious repercussions on Toney’s career.
The Mobile, Ala. native, who was a first-round draft pick by the Giants in 2021 and later played for the Chiefs and Browns, seemed to address the allegations on social media. In a now-deleted Instagram story, Toney wrote, “Mfs say anything when they think they right & they believe anything… long as it’s bad.”
Toney’s NFL career has been tumultuous, with stints on multiple teams and a release from the Browns in December 2024 after playing in just three games. Despite being part of two Super Bowl-winning teams, Toney’s off-field behavior has overshadowed his on-field achievements.
The allegations against Toney serve as a reminder of the prevalence of domestic violence in society and the importance of taking such accusations seriously. As the legal process unfolds, Toney’s future in the NFL remains uncertain.
