Valentine’s Day has arrived once again, and for many of us who are not in a relationship, it means dodging the traditional celebrations like red roses, heart-shaped chocolates, and overpriced dinners at trendy Manhattan restaurants. In a new era where many people are choosing to de-center romance and traditional partnerships, being single has become a conscious choice rather than a societal expectation.

Despite the shift away from traditional relationships, many single individuals are still actively seeking intimacy through various means, including casual encounters, dates, and committed relationships. Online dating was once seen as a tool to facilitate these connections, but has now become a source of disenchantment for many.

The world of online dating is rife with cliches and stereotypes, much like the art history that precedes it. Take, for example, the ubiquitous man holding a fish in his profile picture. While it may showcase his outdoor skills, it can also come across as unappealing to some.

Group photos are another common sight on dating profiles, often leaving potential matches confused about which person is actually the profile owner. And then there are the funny, compromising drunk photos that may elicit a chuckle but ultimately leave little to be desired.

The proud and arrogant man who knows he’s attractive is another recurring theme in online dating profiles. While he may catch your eye, the outcome is often predictable – either you don’t match or he disappears without a trace.

The macho gym selfie is yet another staple of online dating profiles, often signaling a focus on physical appearance rather than substance. And let’s not forget the overconfident man who is eager to teach you something, often veering into mansplaining territory.

In the end, online dating can feel like a roll of the dice, with limited options and a need to choose carefully. So, which of these eligible bachelors should I choose as my Valentine? The world of online dating may be filled with cliches and stereotypes, but it also offers the opportunity to connect with others in new and unexpected ways.
