DeVonta Smith made history on Sunday night by winning Super Bowl LIX with the Philadelphia Eagles against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. This victory solidified his place among football’s elite, as he became just the fifth player in history to achieve the rare trifecta of winning the Heisman Trophy, a college national championship, and the Super Bowl.

Joining the exclusive company of Charles Woodson, Marcus Allen, Tony Dorsett, and Reggie Bush, DeVonta Smith’s journey to greatness began with national championships at Alabama in 2017 and 2020, with the latter season also earning him the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Now, with a Super Bowl ring to add to his resume, Smith stands alone as the only wide receiver in football history to accomplish all three feats.

Looking back at the achievements of the previous players who accomplished this unique trifecta sheds light on the rarity and significance of DeVonta Smith’s accomplishment. Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen, Charles Woodson, and Reggie Bush all left their mark on the football world by achieving success at the collegiate and professional levels.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne shared a heartwarming story about DeVonta Smith’s dedication and work ethic, highlighting the wide receiver’s commitment to excellence. Byrne recalled a moment in January 2021 when he witnessed Smith in the weight room at 6 am, just hours after winning the Heisman Trophy. This dedication and drive are a testament to Smith’s character and determination to succeed.

Smith’s outstanding college football career at Alabama saw him play a pivotal role in the team’s national championship victories, setting records and leaving a lasting legacy. With 235 receptions for 3,965 yards and 85 touchdowns in 54 appearances for the Crimson Tide, Smith’s impact on the game was undeniable.
