Alan Ritchson, best known for his role in the hit series “Reacher,” recently opened up about the challenges he faces as a devout Christian in the entertainment industry. In an interview with GQ magazine, the action star revealed that some fellow Christians struggle to separate him from the characters he portrays on screen.
“People have this strange relationship with fictional characters and often equate them to the real person behind the role,” Ritchson explained. “I don’t have that problem distinguishing between fiction and reality. I receive criticism from Christians who question how I can participate in unmarried sex scenes on TV and still talk about Jesus. But I highly doubt that will be a topic of discussion when I face judgment at the pearly gates.”
Despite the backlash he receives, Ritchson remains steadfast in his faith. In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he shared that his Christian beliefs are rooted in the teachings of Jesus and the values he upholds. However, he expressed disappointment in the divisive nature of the modern Christian community, calling it “the most vitriolic tribe” that strays from the principles of Jesus.
Ritchson also called out the hypocrisy within the church, pointing to the unwavering support for figures like former President Donald Trump and the ongoing scandals of sexual abuse cover-ups. He expressed his disapproval of the lack of accountability within the Catholic Church, particularly in cases of pedophilia among clergy members.
In addition to his vocal stance on faith and morality, Ritchson is not afraid to speak out against political figures. He shared his disdain for his former classmate, Matt Gaetz, calling him out for his questionable actions and character. Ritchson expressed a desire to make a positive impact in politics but acknowledged the challenges of staying true to oneself in a duplicitous environment.
As Ritchson gears up for the third season of “Reacher” on Amazon Prime Video, fans can expect more of his unapologetic attitude and strong convictions. The new season is set to premiere on February 20, offering viewers a thrilling continuation of the action-packed series.
