Samsung’s New Galaxy A56: A Compelling Rival to Apple’s Latest iPhone

Just last week, Apple unveiled its latest iPhone with the A18 chip and Apple Intelligence. However, the hefty price tag of £600 for a phone with a single rear camera and a 60Hz display in 2025 raised some eyebrows. Now, Samsung is stepping up to the plate with its upcoming mid-range offering, the Galaxy A56, which is making waves in the smartphone market.

Priced £100 lower than the base model of the iPhone 16e, the Galaxy A56 boasts double the internal storage at 256GB. But it’s not just about storage capacity – Samsung’s AI capabilities are equally impressive, with features like ‘Awesome AI’ integrated into the new One UI 7.0 user experience. This includes exclusive features like Now Brief and AI Select, as well as Google’s Circle-to-Search and Google Gemini preloaded on the device.

One standout feature of the Galaxy A56 is Samsung’s commitment to longevity, promising six years of OS and security updates. This aligns with the brand’s track record of providing extended software support for its devices.

While the Exynos 1580 chipset in the A56 may not match the performance of Apple’s A18 chip, it still offers significant improvements in NPU, GPU, and CPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 1480.

The design of the A56 has been slimmed down, with a brushed metal frame housing a larger vapor chamber for enhanced thermal performance. The phone’s premium feel and finish, along with its improved performance, set it apart in the mid-range segment.

In terms of camera capabilities, the Galaxy A56 shines with its triple camera setup, featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro sensor. The AI-enhanced camera system offers features like semantic separation and Best Take, enhancing the overall photography experience.

One area where the Galaxy A56 outshines the iPhone 16e is its display. With an OLED panel and a ProMotion-like 120Hz refresh rate, the A56 offers a brighter and more vibrant viewing experience compared to the iPhone’s standard 60Hz display.

Overall, Samsung has hit the mark with the Galaxy A56, offering a compelling alternative to Apple’s latest iPhone. With top-notch features, including a powerful chipset, advanced camera system, and stunning display, the A56 is set to be a strong competitor in the smartphone market. Pre-orders for the Galaxy A56 are now available, with the device set to go on sale on 19 March for £499. Don’t miss out on this impressive mid-range smartphone from Samsung.
