Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, has recently pleaded guilty to a felony charge of driving while intoxicated. Court records indicate that the 54-year-old, a former MLB pitcher, entered the plea on Tuesday morning just before his scheduled trial in Smith County, Texas. The charge against him was officially DWI third or more.

Details regarding the plea agreement Mahomes Sr. reached with prosecutors have not been disclosed. Both the Smith County prosecutors and Mahomes Sr.’s attorney have declined to comment on the matter. As a result of his guilty plea, Mahomes Sr. is now facing a possible 10-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000. However, it is anticipated that prosecutors will recommend a more lenient punishment given his cooperation.

Mahomes Sr. is set to be sentenced on September 23. This legal trouble stems from an incident in February when he was arrested following a routine traffic stop. Law enforcement officers reported that Mahomes Sr. displayed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking prior to driving. Additionally, he was found to have an open 16-ounce can of beer in his vehicle at the time of the stop.

Interestingly, the arrest occurred just days before Mahomes Sr.’s son achieved his third Super Bowl victory in Las Vegas. Despite attending the game at Allegiant Stadium, Mahomes Sr. maintained a low profile. This is not the first time he has faced legal consequences for driving under the influence. In 2019, he was charged with DWI second or more and served a 40-day jail sentence, fulfilling his requirement by spending weekends behind bars.

The Mahomes family’s legal saga serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of driving while intoxicated and the potential consequences that can follow. It underscores the importance of making responsible choices behind the wheel to ensure the safety of oneself and others on the road.
