Planning for America’s 250-Year Birthday Celebration in 2026

As the 250th anniversary of America’s birth approaches, it is important to reflect on the words of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin and President Ronald Reagan regarding the nation’s relationship with God. Franklin’s belief in God’s governance of human affairs and Reagan’s warning about forgetting America’s foundation as “One Nation Under God” serve as poignant reminders of the country’s spiritual heritage.

On July 4, 2026, America will mark a significant milestone in its history. As the nation prepares for this momentous occasion, it is crucial to consider how best to commemorate this event with reverence and gratitude towards God.

Seeking God’s Grace and Mercy

God’s grace and mercy play a central role in America’s history and future. Grace, the unearned favor and blessings bestowed upon the nation, and mercy, the withholding of deserved punishment, are essential aspects of America’s relationship with God.

As plans for the 250th birthday celebration take shape, it is imperative to acknowledge the sins and transgressions that have marred the nation’s history. From the mistreatment of America’s youth to the moral decay and corruption that have plagued society, there is much to repent for and seek forgiveness.

A National Gathering of Repentance and Thanksgiving

A proposed special gathering in Washington, DC, similar to the “Stand In The Gap” event of 1997, could serve as a focal point for national repentance and thanksgiving. Just as over a million men fell to their knees in prayer on the national mall in 1997, a similar gathering in 2026 could unite Americans in seeking God’s forgiveness and blessings.

Attendees would have the opportunity to praise God for His holiness, confess America’s sins, and express gratitude for His many blessings on the nation. This gathering would be a solemn yet joyous occasion to reaffirm America’s faith and dependence on God.

Local Gatherings Across the Nation

In addition to the national gathering in Washington, DC, citizens in each of the 50 states should plan and hold their own gatherings to coincide with July 4, 2026. These local events would allow communities to come together in prayer and reflection, demonstrating their commitment to seeking God’s forgiveness and blessings.

As America approaches its 250th birthday, it is essential to remember the words of Franklin and Reagan and to renew the nation’s covenant with God. Through repentance, gratitude, and prayer, America can honor its past and look towards a future guided by faith and reliance on God’s grace and mercy.

Paul S. Gardiner, a retired Army officer and Vietnam veteran, is a passionate patriot who attended the 1997 Stand In The Gap gathering. His education includes degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Alabama, and the U.S. Army War College.
