Moscow:
Russia announced on Saturday that it has regained control of two additional villages from Ukrainian forces in the Kursk border region as part of its ongoing offensive to reclaim seized territory.
This week, Moscow has been focused on recapturing a significant portion of the land that Ukraine had initially taken in the western Kursk region.
The Russian defense ministry reported that their troops successfully secured the villages of Zaoleshenka and Rubanshchina, situated to the north and west of the town of Sudzha, which was recently reclaimed by Moscow.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had urged Ukrainian troops in Kursk to surrender, while US President Donald Trump appealed to the Kremlin to spare their lives.
“If they choose to surrender and lay down their arms, they will be guaranteed safety and respectful treatment,” Putin stated on Friday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged on Friday that the situation in Kursk is extremely challenging.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian army shared a map on social media showing their troops retreating towards the western border.
