The Denver area and much of Colorado will experience “critical fire weather conditions” on Saturday, with dry, windy weather increasing the risk of wildfires, according to the National Weather Service.

A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from noon to 8 p.m. in areas including Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Greeley, and several counties in the state.

Further south, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and other counties will also be under a Red Flag Warning.

Residents in these areas are advised to avoid outdoor burning and activities that could create sparks, as the low humidity levels make grass and other fuels susceptible to ignition.

Temperatures in Denver are expected to reach 63 degrees, with strong winds gusting up to 44 mph. The windy conditions will persist into the night, with temperatures dropping to 32 degrees. Sunday will see a slight increase to 60 degrees, and Monday could reach close to 70 degrees, with no precipitation in the forecast.

Colorado firefighters have been working to contain several wildfires near major cities, including blazes near Colorado Springs and multiple fires at Aurora’s Jewell Wetlands Park.
