Three Migrant Men Indicted for Brutal Murder of Salvadoran National on Long Island
Three migrant men have been indicted for the alleged strangling and stabbing death of a Salvadoran national on Long Island last month. The District Attorney of Suffolk County described the murder as âbrutalâ and the accused individuals as Brayan Heredia Escobar, Jhon Lopez Campos, and Julio Beltran.
The victim, Candido Guadalupe Saravia Martinez, was found dead with a rope around his neck, signs of blunt force trauma on his face, and a fatal stab wound to his carotid artery inside a tent near Suffolk Avenue in Central Islip. A machete and a bloody knife were also discovered at the scene.
According to DA Ray Tierney, the victim and the accused individuals were homeless. The murder was captured on video surveillance footage from nearby businesses, showing the three suspects fleeing the tent after the crime and entering a laundromat across the street.
The attackers have been indicted on second-degree murder charges, which carry a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Brayan Heredia Escobar, Jhon Lopez Campos, and Julio Beltran will have their respective court hearings in the coming weeks.
When asked about the immigration status of the accused individuals, the DAâs office declined to comment, citing legal regulations that prohibit discussions on immigration status and prior convictions before the completion of a case’s guilt-phase.
As the legal proceedings continue, the Suffolk County DA reiterated their commitment to holding the offenders accountable for their actions and ensuring that justice is served in this tragic case.
