The integration of technology in schools is becoming more prevalent, with a wide range of devices and systems now connected to the internet. From laptops for students and teachers to security cameras and even vending machines, the list of internet-connected devices in schools is extensive. Managing all these devices can be overwhelming for schools, which is why many turn to cloud-based computing services for assistance.

Cloud-based services help schools manage and update their internet-connected devices, as well as troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise. However, these services come with their own set of risks, such as cyberattacks and human errors that can disrupt services. To mitigate these risks, it is essential for schools to have backup systems in place.

Keith Bockwoldt, the chief information officer for the Hinsdale high school district in Illinois, emphasizes the importance of careful planning when it comes to managing internet-connected devices in schools. Knowing all the devices that are connected to the internet is the first step in developing a comprehensive plan for managing and securing these devices.

The interactive graphic below provides a visual representation of the categories of devices that can be connected to the internet in schools. By hovering over each category, clicking on the list of items, and scrolling through the options, users can see the variety of devices that are part of the school’s internet network.

As schools continue to rely on technology for teaching, learning, and administrative tasks, it is crucial to prioritize cybersecurity and data protection. By staying informed about the devices connected to the internet and implementing robust security measures, schools can ensure a safe and efficient learning environment for students and staff.
