Safe Superintelligence (SSI) Partners with Google Cloud to Power AI Research

Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the new AI startup founded by OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, has announced a partnership with Google Cloud to utilize their TPU chips for accelerating AI research and development. This collaboration was revealed in a recent press release by the companies.

Google Cloud has confirmed that SSI is leveraging TPUs to advance its efforts in creating a safe and superintelligent AI system. This move aligns with the trend of cloud providers catering to high-profile AI startups that heavily rely on computing power for training their AI models.

The agreement between SSI and Google Cloud implies that the former will heavily invest in Google Cloud’s computing services. Sources suggest that Google Cloud has become SSI’s primary computing provider, following a similar pattern seen with other AI startups led by former Google researchers.

Notably, Sutskever, who previously worked at Google Brain, has transitioned from his role at OpenAI to focus on SSI’s mission of developing safe and superintelligent AI. The startup, backed by prominent investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital, aims to pioneer advancements in AI technology.

While details about SSI’s projects have been scarce since its launch, the company emphasizes its commitment to enhancing AI models and ensuring their safety. Sutskever’s track record in AI research and dedication to pushing the boundaries of technology signal a promising future for SSI.

Prior to founding SSI, Sutskever played a pivotal role in AI safety initiatives at OpenAI and was involved in leadership changes within the organization. His decision to embark on the SSI venture underscores his relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence in the field of artificial intelligence.
