In a stunning twist that could make even the most seasoned political analyst raise an eyebrow, border crossings plunged to historic lows in March, according to the Trump administration’s border czar, Tom Homan.
Homan triumphantly declared on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “Border Patrol encounters for March totaled just 7,181,” adding a touch of nostalgia by reminiscing about his start as a Border Patrol Agent in 1984. “I cannot recall a single month since then that the numbers have been that low,” he noted, likely evoking memories of simpler times—or at least times with fewer migrants.
Having served in key roles within Immigration and Customs Enforcement during both the Obama and Trump administrations, Homan’s insights carry a weight that is hard to ignore. The reported total for March 2025 represents a staggering 94% decrease compared to the previous year, a drop so significant that it could make one question whether there’s a hidden “Border Control Magic” manual somewhere.
To put things in perspective, illegal border crossings reached unprecedented highs under President Joe Biden, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection reporting more than 10.1 million migrant encounters by August 2024. And let’s not forget about the “gotaways”—an estimated 2 million individuals who slipped past authorities without so much as a friendly wave, pushing the total beyond 12.5 million.

Homan’s March figures are so low they make one wonder if they were lifted from a slow news day. In fact, he pointed out that the monthly total is less than what was often recorded in just one day during Biden’s tenure. “This is a far cry from the more than 11,000 daily encounters we witnessed for a time under Biden,” he stated. “The men and women of the Border Patrol have proven what they can accomplish when they are allowed to do their job and complete the mission of their agency.” If only every agency could boast such results when given the right conditions, perhaps we’d all be living in a utopia.
Of course, skeptics are quick to suggest that the administration may be overstating its achievements, a classic case of “the numbers speak for themselves, but only if you listen closely.” Yet, the data does indicate a notable decline in border encounters and illegal immigration since January, leading to the closure of several migrant facilities in Texas, as reported by The Center Square.
