It appears that Republicans remain blissfully unaware of a significant weight they’re carrying into the 2026 elections. That weight is none other than Donald Trump—a figure whose popularity ranks among the lowest in the annals of presidential polling.

As Trump re-emerged in the political arena, his approval ratings were modestly better than during his first tumultuous term. However, these figures still languished near the bottom of historical presidential polling.

Republicans, alongside the White House, boasted about their supposed “mandate.” While they were correct in claiming that voters had indeed granted them a mandate, it was not one aimed at economic ruin or dismantling federal oversight.

The mandate given to Trump was clear: tackle inflation and bring down costs for everyday Americans.

However, as Trump and his party turned a blind eye to these pressing issues, his approval ratings began to wane—except among one particular demographic. Surprisingly, Gen Z, individuals aged 18-29, initially expressed approval for Trump. This odd endorsement stemmed from a glimmer of hope that his return to the White House might magically resolve inflation and reduce living expenses.

Unfortunately, instead of fulfilling these promises, Trump has exacerbated the situation, leading Gen Z to reconsider their initial optimism.
