Samsung TVs Get Netflix HDR10+ Support… But There’s a Catch

If you’ve got a Samsung TV, then you may be able to get an even better-quality picture from your Netflix subscription, thanks to a free software upgrade being rolled out.

From now on, smart TVs and monitors from the brand support TV series and movies with HDR10+ support. This technology offers higher contrast and brightness, with true-to-life colors and details.

However, this upgrade isn’t available on all Samsung TVs and monitors – it’s for 2025 Samsung Neo QLED, OLED, and Lifestyle TVs, and monitors from 2025 and 2024. If you have a TV older than this year, or a monitor older than last year, you won’t get that new HDR10+ Netflix feature at this time.

But that doesn’t mean it won’t be coming further down the line…

Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, gave the following quote in the press release: “We are excited to bring this technology to Netflix’s 300 million plus members and will continue collaborating with various partners to expand HDR10+ support across our product lineup and the broader streaming ecosystem.”

According to TechRadar, the reason some TVs aren’t supported is due to Netflix using the AV1 codec for HDR10+ content, which was not built into some older models from Samsung.

This website lists some of the HDR10+ supported titles on the platform right now, which includes Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Bird Box. The movie should list whether it has that format or not when you click on the page on your Samsung TV.
