Federal prosecutors have made it clear that they will not be offering a plea deal to the suspect accused of firebombing a Tesla dealership and a local Republican Party office in New Mexico. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Monday that Jamison Wagner, the 40-year-old Albuquerque resident charged with two counts of malicious damage or destruction of property by fire or explosives, could face up to 40 years in prison if convicted of both charges.

Wagner, who is a member of the LGBT group “500 Queer Scientists,” was arrested over the weekend after authorities found substantial evidence linking him to the attacks. Bondi stated in an interview with Fox News that this arrest marks the fifth major arrest related to Tesla incidents.

The Justice Department revealed that surveillance footage and crime scene evidence linked Wagner to both arsons. Wagner will remain in custody pending a detention hearing, which has not been scheduled yet.

The first attack occurred on February 9 when Wagner allegedly used an improvised napalm material to set two Teslas ablaze at the Tesla Albuquerque Showroom. In addition to the vehicles, the dealership was also spray-painted with derogatory phrases and swastika symbols. The following month, Wagner targeted the New Mexico Republican Party headquarters, causing significant damage to the building’s front door and entryway.

During a raid on Wagner’s residence, authorities found a stencil with the phrase “ICE=KKK,” the same paint used in both attacks, and eight assembled suspected incendiary devices. Bondi emphasized that those involved in political violence will be arrested and prosecuted without negotiation.

Tesla has been the target of vandalism and arson across the country in recent weeks, seemingly in protest of CEO Elon Musk’s involvement with the Department of Environmental Efficiency under President Trump. Musk condemned the violence, stating that Tesla is a peaceful company that has not harmed anyone.

Wagner’s biography on the “500 Queer Scientists” website reveals that he is an electrical engineer working as an intern for a national lab. Bondi humorously commented on Wagner’s lipstick, noting that while it may be a deep purple, the shade of the season is lavender.

In conclusion, the arrest of Jamison Wagner signifies a strong stance against acts of violence and vandalism, with authorities committed to holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
