The UIC-Halsted Blue Line station in Chicago was the scene of a tragic shooting on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a 61-year-old man. The victim was found on the pedestrian bridge above the station with a gunshot wound to his head, and despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 6:37 p.m.

Police officers from the University of Illinois-Chicago Police Department swiftly detained a man nearby, recovering a gun from the individual’s bag. Surveillance footage reviewed by an officer revealed that two individuals who appeared to be CTA employees or contractors were engaged in a conversation with the gunman, who ultimately shot one of them in the head. Investigators are working to determine if the victim was indeed working for the CTA.

The scene of the crime was littered with more than a dozen shell casings, indicating that multiple shots were fired during the altercation. A source familiar with the investigation disclosed that the detained man is a CTA employee. The Chicago Police Department has released a statement regarding the incident, stating that the altercation between the 24-year-old and 61-year-old males escalated into a deadly exchange of gunfire. The 61-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries at Stroger Hospital, while the 24-year-old suspect was taken in for questioning.

The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing, with Area 3 Detectives working diligently to uncover the full details of what transpired at the UIC-Halsted Blue Line station on that fateful evening.
