Canopius Group, a prominent property and casualty reinsurer, has recently appointed Andrew Ziolkowski as the new head of Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), starting his tenure on 25th October. In his new role, Ziolkowski will be responsible for overseeing Canopius’ operations in the ANZ and Asia-Pacific regions, with a focus on creating value for shareholders. He will report directly to Canopius CEO for APAC and MENA, SK Lee.

Ziolkowski’s duties will include leading the ANZ business units, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and cultivating strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. He takes over from Craig Elliot, who has been serving as the interim head of the Australia business since December 2024. Elliot will continue his journey with Canopius as the head of casualty for ANZ, in addition to taking on the role of head of distribution for the region.

With over 28 years of industry experience, Ziolkowski brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position, having previously served as the chief underwriting and transformation officer at QBE Insurance. Prior to that, he held the role of group executive of insurance for New South Wales Self Insurance Corporation and occupied various executive positions at IAG/Wesfarmers Insurance and Zurich Financial Services.

SK Lee expressed confidence in Ziolkowski’s abilities, stating, “Andrew’s extensive experience and strategic leadership will be instrumental in propelling Canopius’ Australia business forward. We are delighted to welcome him to our growing business in Australia.” Lee also commended Craig Elliot for his exceptional management during the interim period and expressed excitement for Elliot to lead the distribution efforts moving forward.

In a statement, Ziolkowski shared his enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead for Canopius in Australia and New Zealand. He expressed his eagerness to expand the delegated authority business and grow the open market business in the region, as well as lead a talented team towards further achievements.

In other news, Canopius recently approved Qubit as a coverholder, allowing Qubit to offer digital asset custody and crime insurance products from Hong Kong.
