New Delhi:

Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir has emphasized the significance of Kashmir to Islamabad, referring to it as the country’s “jugular vein” that will not be forgotten. He also defended the two-nation theory that led to the Partition in 1947.

Addressing a gathering of Pakistanis residing abroad, General Munir highlighted the importance of preserving Pakistan’s heritage and ideology, rooted in the two-nation theory. This theory, which formed the basis for the creation of Pakistan, asserts the differences between Muslims and Hindus in various aspects of life.

General Munir reaffirmed the separate identities of India and Pakistan, emphasizing the sacrifices made for the establishment of Pakistan. He also expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to defend itself against any threats.

Furthermore, he vowed to combat separatist movements in Balochistan, emphasizing the region’s significance to Pakistan. Regarding Kashmir, General Munir reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.

The Ministry of External Affairs is yet to respond to these statements, but a reaction is anticipated given the provocative nature of the remarks.

Analysis

General Munir’s statements reflect Islamabad’s stance on key issues, including relations with India and the defense of Pakistan’s identity and sovereignty. By reinforcing the two-nation theory, he aims to unite Pakistanis during challenging times. The emphasis on Kashmir underscores the unresolved conflict between India and Pakistan.

These remarks may escalate tensions between the two countries, particularly due to their anti-India sentiment.
