Romain Grosjean, the PREMA Racing driver, recently shared his insights on the intense nature of the upcoming Indy 500, scheduled to take place in about a month. While Grosjean won’t be participating in this iconic event, his teammates Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott are gearing up for the challenge.

Grosjean had previously raced for Juncos Hollinger Racing in 2024 but was released from the team as they opted to sign Conor Daly and Sting Ray Robb for the 2025 season. However, Grosjean found a new role as the reserve driver for the newest team on the IndyCar grid earlier this year.

Robert Shwartzman, who made his IndyCar debut at the St. Pete race earlier this season, will be making his first appearance at the historic oval race during the 2025 Indy 500. Grosjean, in a recent appearance on the Race IndyCar podcast, was asked to provide advice to Shwartzman ahead of his Indy 500 debut.

Grosjean emphasized the unique challenges of the Indy 500, stating that there’s nothing that can truly prepare a driver for the event. He described it as a mentally taxing month, where even the simplest aspects of the track can become overwhelming due to the high stakes involved.

Reflecting on his own Indy 500 experience, Grosjean made his debut in 2022 with Andretti Global and qualified P9, his best qualifying result at the iconic race. Despite retiring from the race in 2022 and 2023, Grosjean managed to finish P19 in 2024 after starting from the 26th position.

Moreover, Callum Ilott shed light on Grosjean’s role at PREMA Racing during a recent interview. Grosjean’s appointment as a reserve driver came as a surprise to many, considering it’s not common practice in American open-wheel racing. Ilott expressed optimism about Grosjean’s presence, citing his speed, expertise, and potential to provide valuable insights to the team.

PREMA Racing faced a challenging start to the IndyCar series, qualifying outside the Top 20. However, being their debut season, the team is still in the process of acclimating to the series and finding their footing.

In conclusion, Grosjean’s wealth of experience and knowledge in motorsports is expected to benefit PREMA Racing as they navigate through the competitive landscape of the IndyCar series. As the Indy 500 draws closer, the anticipation and excitement surrounding the event continue to build, promising a thrilling spectacle for fans and drivers alike.
