A shooting incident occurred overnight in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago, resulting in a 45-year-old man sustaining gunshot wounds to both legs. The incident took place in the common area of a residential hotel on the 4900 block of North Kenmore Avenue. Police responded to reports of shots fired around 1:40 a.m. and found the victim on the sidewalk with injuries.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered bullet fragments, casings, shattered glass, and blood in the common area of the hotel where the shooting occurred. A suspect was located in a room within the hotel and was apprehended by the police. A firearm was recovered from a drawer in the suspect’s possession.

The victim was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition for treatment. This incident marks the first shooting in Uptown this year, a stark contrast to previous years where there were multiple incidents by this time. In 2024 and 2023, there were three shootings each, while in 2022, Uptown had six victims at this point in the year.

CWBChicago, a local news source, provided original reporting on this incident, highlighting the importance of community-supported journalism. The platform was created in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information presented at local Community Policing meetings. Over the years, CWBChicago has expanded its coverage to include areas like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, and Uptown, while maintaining its commitment to delivering detailed public safety reporting.

For more information and updates on this incident and other news in the area, readers can visit the CWBChicago website or contact the editorial team at news@cwbchicago.com.
