Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, has responded to the crash suffered by Yuki Tsunoda during the second practice session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Tsunoda, the Japanese driver, had a shunt that prematurely ended the session, causing damage to his car and bringing an early halt to his track time.

The incident occurred as Tsunoda was on a long-run lap, and he clipped his front-left tire against the barrier leading up to the main straight before crashing into the right barrier at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. The crash resulted in damage to his front wing, suspension, and a puncture in his front-right tire. Despite the scare, Tsunoda was able to exit the wrecked car unharmed.

Christian Horner, speaking to the media after the session, chose to focus on the positive aspects of Tsunoda’s performance before the crash. He highlighted the progress the young driver had been making and commended his driving up to that point. Horner acknowledged Tsunoda’s growing confidence and improving lap times, indicating a step in the right direction for the number 22 car.

This incident comes on the heels of a near-collision that Tsunoda had with Carlos Sainz during the previous race, the Bahrain Grand Prix. In that instance, Tsunoda made contact with Sainz’s car, leading to the Spaniard’s retirement from the race. Despite these setbacks, Tsunoda’s potential and promising performances have not gone unnoticed by the Red Bull team.

Following the crash, Tsunoda expressed his frustration with the circumstances that led to the incident. He mentioned turning too much and clipping the inside wall, resulting in the damage to his car. The Japanese driver apologized to the team for the mishap, as things were looking promising before the crash occurred.

Despite the disappointment of ending his second practice session on a low note, Tsunoda’s sixth-place position on the timing sheet showed promise for the Red Bull team. With a new engine and performance upgrades on his RB21 challenger, Tsunoda was eager to get a feel for the car but will now have to wait until the next practice session to continue his preparations for the race.

In conclusion, while the crash was a setback for Yuki Tsunoda and the Red Bull team, the incident highlighted the progress and potential of the young driver. With Christian Horner’s support and the team’s backing, Tsunoda will be looking to bounce back stronger in the upcoming sessions and showcase his true capabilities on the track.
