The past few weeks have been a whirlwind for Nintendo fans, with the unveiling of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2nd. The announcement brought a wave of excitement with new specs, features, and games to look forward to. However, despite the initial reveal, there were still many unanswered questions about the upcoming console.

I had the opportunity to attend the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience in London, where I aimed to uncover more details and alleviate any concerns. Here’s a rundown of everything I discovered at the event.

### Toughened Up

The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a more robust design compared to its predecessor. The new 7.9-inch screen cover feels more durable, resembling glass rather than plastic. However, during my hands-on experience, I noticed some minor scratches on the display, likely due to the extensive use by attendees at the event. Consider investing in a screen protector for added protection.

The overall construction of the Switch 2 feels sturdier, with additional ports and cooling outlets. The game card slot cover has been reinforced, and the kickstand has been improved for better stability. Despite being heavier than the OLED model, the Switch 2 remains lighter than other high-end gaming handhelds.

### Eye Candy

While the Switch 2 opts for an LCD panel instead of OLED, the display still offers improved visuals compared to the original Switch. The panel supports HDR, providing vibrant colors and a crisp viewing experience. The screen also appears to be laminated, reducing reflectivity and enhancing clarity.

### Rails or Magnets?

The Switch 2 features larger Joy-Con 2 controllers that attach using magnets instead of rails. The new design offers better ergonomics and a secure connection. While there is some wiggle in the attachment, it doesn’t affect the overall functionality of the controllers.

### Picking for Performance

During the hands-on experience, several titles showcased the capabilities of the Switch 2. Games like Mario Kart World, Metroid Prime 4, and Donkey Kong Bananza impressed with their enhanced graphics and gameplay. The Switch 2 Edition of popular titles like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom also delivered a smooth gaming experience.

### Controller Comforts

The Switch 2 introduces Mouse Mode for precise aiming and cursor-based gameplay. While the Joy-Con 2 controllers offer unique functionality, some users may prefer additional grip cases for extended play sessions. The new Pro Controller and GameCube controller provide alternative control options with added features like GameChat integration.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release in select markets on June 5th, offering an array of improvements and new gaming experiences for fans to enjoy.
