An 18-Year-Old Man Accused of Terrorizing CTA Blue Line Riders
An 18-year-old man, Jeremiah Burns, is facing serious charges after allegedly committing a series of armed robberies on CTA trains and then violently carjacking an Uber driver with his accomplices. The incidents took place over the course of several days, leaving a trail of terror on the Blue Line.
Identification and Arrest
Seven caseworkers who had previous interactions with Burns were able to identify him from CTA surveillance footage, leading to his arrest. Prosecutors presented overwhelming evidence against Burns, highlighting his previous criminal history and parole status at the time of the crimes.

The robberies began on March 12 when Burns, wearing a mask, stole a phone from a 28-year-old woman on a Blue Line train at Kedzie. The following day, he allegedly robbed a 38-year-old man of his wallet and took a phone from a 25-year-old man near the Western station.
Subsequent incidents involved robbing Whitney Young Magnet High School students on a train near Racine and another robbery near the Western Station. Burns and his accomplices used a victim’s phone to order an Uber to Burns’ residence, where they violently carjacked the driver.
Legal Proceedings
Due to his history of violence and disregard for the law, Judge Ankur Srivastava ordered Burns to be detained. He is facing multiple charges, including armed robbery, robbery, and armed vehicular hijacking.
With a total of six adjudications for violent crimes as a juvenile, Burns has been described as a menace to CTA Blue Line riders. The case is ongoing as prosecutors continue to build their case against the accused.
