Drones over Sandringham: a real threat or just another ‘Russian peril’ narrative?

The security of the United Kingdom’s monarch is under scrutiny following alarming sightings of unidentified drones hovering over King Charles’s residence at Sandringham. This recent incident has compelled the authorities to establish a no-fly zone around the royal estate, coinciding with the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Sky News reported:

“Security services requested the implementation of flight restrictions on March 4, shortly after King Charles welcomed Volodymyr Zelenskyy to his estate, with the no-fly regulations taking effect on March 10.”

“Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander authorized the order, which prohibits aircraft from flying below 2,000 feet over Sandringham for public safety and security reasons.”

‘Spooks fear threat’: intelligence services are worried.

“The order specifies: ‘These regulations impose restrictions on flying in the vicinity of Sandringham House, Norfolk. Given the necessity for security for royal family members and other dignitaries visiting Sandringham House, and at the request of security services, it has been agreed by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport that flying restrictions will be enforced in this area for reasons of public safety and security.’”

King Charles had previously hosted President Zelensky during his visit to the UK for a defense summit held in London.

“The drone sightings triggered a significant security operation, with one of the drones traced back to an individual in a nearby vehicle, while the origins of others remain unknown, according to reports from The Sun.”
