WWE Acquires AAA, One of Mexico’s Biggest Wrestling Promotions

The wrestling world was abuzz with excitement as WWE announced its acquisition of AAA, a prominent wrestling promotion in Mexico, from Fillip, a sports and entertainment holding company based in Mexico. The deal, which is expected to close in Q3 2025 pending customary closing conditions, was revealed during the WrestleMania 41 countdown show over the weekend.

The announcement was made by WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Fillip’s chairman Alberto Fasja, AAA’s Marisela Peña, Dorian Roldán Peña, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, and El Hijo Del Vikingo.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the collaboration, Levesque stated, “AAA has a rich cultural heritage and passionate fan base, and it’s an honor to partner with the Peña family on this exciting journey. By combining WWE’s global reach with AAA’s storied tradition, we anticipate a future filled with new opportunities.”

WWE and AAA will join forces for a special event on June 7 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, titled “Worlds Collide.” The show will feature a mix of WWE and AAA talent, with the match card to be revealed at a later date.

Commenting on the partnership, Hugo LĂłpez-Velarde, co-founder and co-CEO of Fillip, stated, “We are excited to collaborate with WWE and TKO to elevate AAA to new heights and ensure a bright future for fans and the business.”

Founded in 1992 by Antonio Peña, AAA has been a family-operated business for over three decades. The Peña family, alongside WWE and Fillip, will continue to steer the direction of AAA. The promotion has been home to legendary lucha libre talent such as Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, and more recent additions like Penta and Fénix.

Dorian Roldán Peña, AAA General Manager, expressed his confidence in the partnership, stating, “AAA’s legacy as a family-run promotion spans generations, and we are thrilled to entrust its future to one of the largest sports entertainment entities in the world.”
