Homeless Parolee Charged with Attempted Murder in Bronx Train Attack

A homeless parolee with a history of arrests has been charged with attempted murder after a violent metal knuckle knife attack on a Bronx train passenger, authorities said.

Lateef Green, 50, was apprehended less than 12 hours after he allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old victim multiple times on a southbound No. 2 train at the 219th Street station in Olinville at 7 a.m. on Friday.

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center and is in stable condition after receiving multiple stitches for his wounds.

Green, who has 13 prior arrests and is on parole for a previous assault, is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and harassment. He is being held on $300,000 cash bail or $900,000 bond.

Green’s criminal record includes a hate-fueled attack in 2016, for which he served time in prison. He was released on parole in January 2021.

Authorities were able to connect Green to the recent stabbing incident with the help of parole staff. He is currently held at Rikers Island pending further court appearances.

Legal Aid attorney Susan Light, representing Green, did not provide immediate comments on the case.

Green’s most recent arrest prior to the stabbing was for allegedly evading the turnstile at a Brooklyn subway station in February.
