A Chicago Police Department Recruit Caught with Crack Cocaine During Training Exercise

A shocking incident unfolded during a narcotics arrest training scenario at the Chicago Police Academy when a recruit was found with real crack cocaine in his possession. The internal report obtained by CWBChicago detailed the troubling discovery.

According to the report, a 24-year-old recruit was taken into custody after another recruit found eight baggies of crack cocaine in his cargo pants pocket during the training exercise. When confronted about the drugs, the recruit allegedly claimed, “These aren’t my pants.”

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Monday when a trainer provided the recruit with a baggie containing simulated heroin for scenario-based training involving narcotics offenses. Another recruit was tasked with conducting a custodial search on the subject while being observed and evaluated by the trainer.

During the search, the recruit discovered a knotted baggie in the cargo pants pocket containing four small zip baggies adorned with green dollar signs, each holding suspected crack cocaine. Despite knowing that the training drugs were in a baggie with blue stars, the recruit dismissed the contents of the knotted baggie as “garbage.”

When questioned by the trainer about the contents of the baggie, the recruit reportedly insisted, “These aren’t my pants. They belong to my brother, he’s the police.”

The trainer immediately took the recruit into an operations office to inform a supervisor about the discovery. The report indicated that the crack cocaine weighed 8 grams.

In response to the incident, a CPD spokesperson confirmed that the 24-year-old male recruit was taken into custody as part of an active investigation. An internal inquiry is currently underway to address the situation.

CWBChicago has chosen not to disclose the identity of the recruit in custody as no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
