James Darren, a beloved actor known for his work in movies like “Gidget” and TV shows like “T.J. Hooker” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” has passed away. The veteran actor died peacefully in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, as confirmed by his son, Jim Moret.

The cause of James Darren’s death is still unclear, but his son mentioned that the actor was dealing with heart issues and was receiving treatment at the hospital’s cardiac unit. Initially, James had gone to the hospital for an aortic valve replacement, but he was deemed too weak to undergo the procedure and was sent home. Unfortunately, he had to be taken back to the hospital soon after.

James Darren rose to fame as a teen idol when he portrayed a surfer named Moondoggie in the “Gidget” series of films. He also had a recurring role as police officer Jim Corrigan in the TV show “T.J. Hooker,” appearing in 66 episodes across four seasons.

In addition to his on-screen work, James enjoyed a successful career as a singer and even directed episodes of popular TV shows like “Melrose Place,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and “The A-Team.” He also lent his voice to the theme song of “Gidget” and achieved chart success with the hit single “Goodbye Cruel World” in 1961.

James Darren’s legacy extends beyond his acting and singing career. He leaves behind a lasting impact on the entertainment industry and will be remembered by his three sons and five grandchildren. At the age of 88, James Darren has left behind a rich body of work that will continue to be cherished by fans around the world.
