U.S. Army Intelligence Analyst Sentenced to 7 Years for Leaking Top-Secret Military Documents to Communist China |

In a glaring betrayal of duty, 25-year-old ex-Army intelligence analyst Korbein Schultz has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for conspiring to leak America’s most sensitive military secrets to Communist China.

Hailing from Wills Point, Texas, Schultz pleaded guilty in August 2024 to multiple charges, including transmitting sensitive defense intelligence, unlawfully exporting classified materials, and accepting bribes—all for the benefit of a foreign adversary.

“This defendant took an oath to protect the United States but chose instead to sell out his country for financial gain, jeopardizing the safety of our military and service members,” remarked Attorney General Pamela Bondi in a statement.

She added, “The Justice Department is unwavering in its commitment to countering China’s attempts to undermine our military, ensuring that those who compromise our national security are held accountable.”

Schultz’s espionage activities spanned from May 2022 until his arrest in March 2024, during which he conspired with a Hong Kong individual—dubbed in court documents as Conspirator A—whom he believed was connected to the Chinese government.

This individual, posing as a geopolitical analyst on a freelance platform, cleverly turned their connection into a channel for espionage.

In exchange for a mere $42,000, Schultz betrayed American troops by leaking critical tactical and technical information, training documents, and sensitive data concerning U.S. missile defense and aerial combat capabilities.

Among the classified documents he disclosed were:

• Operational orders from his Army unit before deployment to Eastern Europe in support of NATO;
• Insights from the U.S. Army’s experiences in the Ukraine/Russia conflict that could be applied to Taiwan’s defense;
• Technical manuals for the HH-60 helicopter, F-22A fighter jet, and Intercontinental Ballistic Missile systems;
• Information detailing Chinese military tactics and activities of the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force;
• Data regarding U.S. military exercises in the Republic of Korea and the Philippines;
• Documents pertaining to U.S. military satellites and missile defense systems, including the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD);
• Strategies for countering unmanned aerial systems in large-scale combat scenarios.

“This sentencing serves as a clear warning to those who betray our nation: the consequences will be severe,” stated FBI Director Kash Patel.

“The People’s Republic of China relentlessly pursues our national defense information, with service members as prime targets. The FBI and our partners are committed to eliminating espionage and holding accountable those who fail to protect our defense information from hostile entities,” Patel added.

Even more alarmingly, Schultz allegedly attempted to recruit another Army intelligence analyst to further expand his espionage operations, specifically targeting someone within the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), which supervises U.S. military activities near China.

Conversations between Schultz and his handler indicated a premeditated strategy to gain access to highly classified documents related to Indo-Pacific military strategies.

Brigadier General Rhett R. Cox, commander of the Army’s Counterintelligence Command, condemned Schultz’s treachery as “a disgrace,” confirming that his actions placed real lives in jeopardy.
