Liz West’s latest exhibition at the Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate is a mesmerizing display of color and brightness that spans the entire main space. The installation, titled “H.A.P.P.Y,” is a sensory experience that invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world of vibrant hues.

Inspired by seasonal affective disorder (S.A.D.), a form of depression that often peaks in the fall and winter months, West’s exhibition aims to combat the feelings of gloominess associated with the changing seasons. By transforming the historic spa promenade room into a luminous environment, the artist hopes to evoke feelings of joy and positivity.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is “Our Colour Reflection,” a striking installation composed of 765 multi-colored discs arranged across the floor. These discs interact with natural and artificial light, creating a dynamic and ever-changing display of color that evolves throughout the day.

In addition to the floor installation, “H.A.P.P.Y” also features a selection of paintings, drawings, and models that offer insight into West’s creative process. The exhibition will be on display at the Mercer Art Gallery until October 5th, giving visitors ample time to immerse themselves in the artist’s colorful world.
