Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell detailed on Thursday how Cobos-Carmona first entered the United States in 2021, reportedly facilitated by what critics describe as an “open borders” policy under President Joe Biden. After being deported, he re-entered the U.S. in 2022, ultimately evading Texas law enforcement before landing in Florida. Despite being apprehended by law enforcement in Sarasota in the summer of 2024, he was released due to the controversial ‘catch and release’ policy.

The victim’s mother reported that her son disclosed the horrifying details of his assault, which occurred while he was playing outside with his younger brother. According to reports, during a game of hide-and-seek, Cobos-Carmona allegedly ambushed the child in the woods.
In a chilling account, the child indicated that he was held down and assaulted, despite his attempts to resist and call for help. Initially denying the allegations, Cobos-Carmona later confessed to the crimes.
