Grey District Council received a revised directive from Taumata Arowai earlier this week, allowing them to lift the boil water notice after confirming that the water treatment facility now meets the required standards. Kurtin Perrin-Smith, council group manager operations, emphasized that they are thoroughly examining all possible sources of concern as part of their investigation. Mayor Tania Gibson expressed gratitude for the community’s patience during this challenging time, acknowledging the stress it has caused for both residents and the council.
Mayor Gibson likened the search for the contamination source to finding a needle in a haystack but shared relief that their water has tested clear for five consecutive days. Fortunately, there have been no reports of illnesses linked to the water contamination.
