Two CWBChicago Alumni Arrested for Carjacking and Robbery

Two former subjects of CWBChicago stories have been apprehended for a string of crimes involving carjacking and robbery. Alphanso Talley, 25, who has three pending criminal cases, and Donvon McClary, 21, are currently in custody awaiting trial.

Talley first appeared in a CWBChicago article after he robbed two men in Boystown and three others on a River North subway platform in 2017, leading to a 7-year prison sentence. McClary was featured in a CWB story for mugging two CTA passengers on a Red Line train near Lake Street in 2022, resulting in a 2-year sentence.

According to prosecutors, Talley and McClary embarked on a crime spree last Friday afternoon. At around 2:32 p.m., two masked individuals confronted a 25-year-old woman in the 4700 block of South Calumet and stole her 2019 Jeep Cherokee.

Shortly after, the stolen vehicle was used in another incident in the 6300 block of South Morgan, where two masked men brandished a gun at a man, taking his valuables, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.

The CPD’s hijacking task force was able to track down the stolen Jeep and arrest Talley after he fled from the driver’s seat and attempted to hide under a porch. Talley was taken to a hospital for treatment after claiming to have ingested multiple bags of crack cocaine.

Meanwhile, officers responding to a potential incident in Streeterville encountered McClary as he ran across the 1100 block of West 59th Street. McClary, who was visibly injured, asserted that he had been struck by a vehicle.

However, police discovered a firearm in McClary’s possession, leading to his arrest. Subsequently, it was determined that he was Talley’s accomplice in the earlier crimes.

Both men have been detained pending trial and are facing charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking and armed robbery. McClary also faces a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Court records reveal that Talley was out on pretrial release for three separate cases at the time of the carjacking and robbery, including charges of stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing, aggravated battery of peace officers, and misdemeanor domestic battery. McClary was also on pretrial release for criminal trespassing and reckless conduct.
