Carjacking and Vehicle Fire in Old Town

Authorities responded to a disturbing incident in Old Town as a woman’s car was found engulfed in flames shortly after she was carjacked at gunpoint near the Chicago History Museum.

The victim, a 36-year-old woman, recounted the harrowing experience that took place around 2:41 a.m. in the 1600 block of North LaSalle. She reported that a male suspect brandishing a firearm approached her white Honda SUV, forced her out of the vehicle, and drove off in a southerly direction.

Moments later, multiple 911 calls alerted emergency services to a blazing vehicle in the 1700 block of North Vine, located approximately three-quarters of a mile west of the initial carjacking scene. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the burning vehicle was indeed the woman’s stolen SUV.

Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the incident. The suspect, described as a Black male wearing a blue hoodie and black pants, remains at large as authorities continue their search.
