Carjackers Strike on West Side, Robbing Multiple Victims

A series of crimes involving carjackings and robberies occurred on the West Side of Chicago over the weekend, with Chicago police linking the incidents and issuing a public warning on Monday.

Authorities believe that up to three men, working together, are responsible for the violent acts targeting victims during the afternoon and evening hours.

The first incident took place on Friday evening at approximately 8:47 p.m. in the 300 block of South Whipple, where a 24-year-old rideshare driver was shot during a hijacking attempt. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his foot after the offender’s failed carjacking attempt.

Earlier that same day, three men robbed two individuals on the same block while they were in the process of moving furniture from a residence.

On Saturday, a food delivery driver was robbed while sitting in his vehicle at the corner of Whipple and Jackson around 3 p.m. Another food delivery driver fell victim to a gunpoint robbery on Sunday at approximately 4:52 p.m. in the 300 block of South Whipple.

All incidents are believed to be connected, with the suspects described as Black males between 16 and 20 years old, wearing black face masks. They are said to be 5’6″ to 5’9″ tall and weigh between 130 and 170 pounds, with one of them having a tattoo above his right eyebrow.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Area Four detectives at 312-746-8253 regarding crime pattern #25-4-012.
