Beau DeMayo, the creator and executive producer of the Marvel Animation series “X-Men ’97,” has made serious allegations against Marvel and Disney in a recent video posted on his OnlyFans profile. DeMayo was terminated by Marvel just before the premiere of “X-Men ’97” on Disney+ in March. The reasons for his dismissal were not disclosed until August, following DeMayo’s claim that his credits for Season 2 were removed after he posted fan art of himself as Cyclops for gay pride.
Marvel stated that DeMayo was fired due to findings from an internal investigation that revealed “egregious misconduct.” According to a source, the investigation uncovered allegations of sexual misconduct, leading to the termination of DeMayo’s credits. DeMayo vehemently denies these allegations, calling them false and part of a smear campaign to discredit him.
DeMayo further alleges that he experienced and witnessed misconduct while working on “X-Men ’97” and during his time as a screenwriter on the film “Blade.” He claims that the misconduct extended from crew members on the show to the top of Marvel Studios. Despite these serious accusations, a spokesperson for Marvel Studios has not responded to requests for comment.
DeMayo also revealed that his exit agreement was breached due to his social media posts about “X-Men ’97,” including fan art and speaking engagements. He believes that Disney has blacklisted him from non-Disney Comic-Con panels and blocked him from attending the Emmys, where the show is nominated.
In his video, DeMayo outlined specific allegations of misconduct against Marvel and Disney executives and employees. These allegations range from discriminatory behavior based on his race and sexual orientation to conflicts over creative decisions for the show. DeMayo also highlighted concerning working conditions for VFX and animation artists at Marvel, as well as incidents of inappropriate behavior among the crew.
The allegations made by DeMayo paint a troubling picture of the work environment at Marvel and Disney. The lack of response from Marvel Studios adds to the complexity of the situation. DeMayo has promised to share more information in the future, indicating that this story is far from over.
