Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and five others were detained by Danish police at the University of Copenhagen during a protest against Israel’s war on Gaza. Thunberg, who was filmed being escorted into a police vehicle, was released the same day, as reported by Reuters.

The protest took place in the university’s administration building, where the group Students Against the Occupation urged the school to end its collaboration with Israeli universities, citing concerns about contributing to genocide.

Although not a student at the university, Thunberg shared updates on the demonstration on her Instagram account before her detention, highlighting the police intervention and arrests of students.

Thunberg’s activism extends beyond climate issues as she stands in solidarity with Palestinians, advocating for an end to violence and human rights violations in the region.

In a recent opinion piece for The Guardian, Thunberg emphasized the importance of speaking up against injustices and the need for global action to address humanitarian crises like the situation in Gaza.

Protests worldwide have erupted in response to the conflict in Gaza, with concerns raised by international organizations about the impact of the ongoing violence on civilians.

The United Nations special rapporteur on human rights has expressed grave concerns about the situation in Gaza, indicating a potential genocide due to the military actions taken by Israeli forces.
