Cacey Williams Arrested for Lakeview Burglaries

Less than a month after CWBChicago highlighted a pair of burglars targeting Lakeview homes, Chicago police have made an arrest. Cacey Williams, a 34-year-old with previous burglary convictions, is now facing charges for three residential burglaries dating back to 2022.

Williams, along with an accomplice, allegedly broke into a home on the 1600 block of West Byron on April 4, making off with approximately $5,860 worth of items including purses, jewelry, perfume, an Xbox controller, AirTags, backpacks, and wine. DNA evidence also linked Williams to burglaries on the 1900 block of West Byron in November 2023 and the 4300 block of North Ashland in December 2022, where victims suffered losses totaling $18,000.

According to prosecutors, Williams gained entry to homes by breaking through back windows. Judge James Costello ordered Williams to be detained, stating that he had “destroyed the sense of safety” for the victims in their own homes.

Surveillance footage provided by one of the recent burglary victims captured the suspects attempting to gain entry by checking windows and scaling a fence into a neighbor’s yard. The homeowners, who wish to remain anonymous, revealed that the burglars entered their home through a kitchen window while one of them briefly stepped out. This led the victims to believe that the perpetrators had been monitoring their routines prior to the break-in.

Despite the victims’ claims that the Chicago Police Department made no effort to gather camera footage from neighbors, they took matters into their own hands and conducted their own investigation. Their diligence paid off when they identified one of the burglars as Cacey Williams, who has now been apprehended. However, the second suspect remains at large.

This arrest is a testament to the collaboration between law enforcement and vigilant community members. It serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their homes from potential intruders.
