Reddit CEO Steve Huffman recently discussed the two types of users that frequent the social media platform: Scrollers and Seekers. Scrollers are individuals who engage in community conversations and discussions on various topics of interest, such as r/sourdough or r/popculturechat. On the other hand, Seekers are users who turn to Reddit for specific queries, seeking real advice and opinions from the community.

To cater to the Seekers, Reddit introduced Reddit Answers, an AI-powered chatbot that provides verbatim answers and summaries from existing Reddit posts. The feature has already garnered 1 million weekly active users since its beta launch in December, with expansion into countries like Australia, the U.K., Canada, and India.

Moving forward, Reddit plans to integrate Answers more deeply into the platform. One approach is to incorporate Answers into the primary search box, allowing users to input full queries rather than just keywords. Additionally, the company is exploring ways to introduce Answers to new users as they navigate the platform for the first time.

This integration not only enhances the user experience but also serves as a safeguard against fluctuations in user growth due to algorithm changes in Google Search. Huffman emphasized the importance of Reddit’s open platform and its visibility in search results, acknowledging potential challenges from Google’s evolving algorithms.

Following Reddit’s strong financial performance in the first quarter, with revenue reaching $392.4 million and daily active unique users growing to 108.1 million, the company’s stock saw a significant increase in after-hours trading. For the second quarter, Reddit anticipates revenue between $410 million and $430 million, with adjusted EBITDA expected to range from $110 million to $130 million.

Overall, Reddit’s focus on catering to both Scrollers and Seekers through innovative features like Reddit Answers is driving user engagement and revenue growth, positioning the platform for continued success in the ever-evolving social media landscape.
