Rosa Salazar Departs CBS’ “Einstein” Series Opposite Matthew Gray Gubler

In a surprising turn of events, Rosa Salazar has made the decision to step down from her lead role in CBS’ upcoming drama series, “Einstein,” which was set to star her alongside Matthew Gray Gubler. This announcement comes shortly after CBS officially greenlit the series, only to later delay its premiere from the 2025-2026 television season to the following year, 2026-2027. Sources reveal that Salazar requested to be released from her contract upon learning of the production delay, and all parties involved ultimately agreed to honor her wishes.

The premise of “Einstein” revolves around Matthew Gray Gubler’s character, Lewis Einstein, the great grandson of the renowned physicist Albert Einstein. Lewis, described as a comfortably tenured professor, finds himself entangled in legal trouble due to his rebellious behavior, leading him to assist a local police detective in solving complex cases. His character is portrayed as irreverent and misguided, struggling to live up to his family name and intellectual legacy.

Salazar was originally cast to play Veronica “Ronni” Paris, a dedicated detective inspector with the New Jersey State Police. Ronni, who joined law enforcement following the tragic loss of her husband, is depicted as sharp and disciplined, holding high expectations for both her colleagues and herself. However, her collaboration with Professor Einstein challenges her sense of duty and ethics, creating a dynamic relationship between the two characters.

Created by Andy Breckman and directed by Randy Zisk, “Einstein” is a collaboration between executive producers Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, and Laura Beetz for Seven One Studios International. The series, based on a German TV movie from 2015 that later spawned a successful three-season show, was ordered to pilot in August 2024 by CBS Studios.

While Salazar’s departure may come as a disappointment to fans eagerly anticipating the series, CBS remains committed to bringing “Einstein” to the small screen with a talented cast and crew. Stay tuned for further updates on this intriguing crime-solving drama as it continues to evolve in the coming months.
