Kelly Kozma, a talented artist known for finding beauty in everyday ephemera, is set to showcase her latest solo exhibition titled “Watch Me Backflip” at Paradigm Gallery + Studio. Kozma’s work revolves around repurposing various found materials, such as Chiquita banana labels, toothpaste packaging, and quality control stickers, into stunning two-dimensional wall works, intricate textile-inspired assemblages, and captivating suspended installations.

The exhibition, which opens this weekend, highlights Kozma’s archival and interdisciplinary approach to art-making. By combining different media and materials, she creates pieces that not only showcase her artistic talent but also convey deeper messages about reusing materials, interconnectedness, and the impact of small interactions on a larger scale.

One of the standout pieces in the exhibition is “Iguana & Myrrh,” a massive composition spanning 22 feet in circumference and comprising over 30,000 hand-stitched circles cut from a variety of colorful materials. Kozma’s commitment to a minimal-waste practice is evident in how she incorporates scraps and loose threads into her works, highlighting the importance of mindfulness against overconsumption and emotional apathy.

Through her meticulous stitching and careful selection of materials, Kozma creates connections between the people in her life and the objects she interacts with. This thoughtful approach not only adds depth to her work but also serves as a reminder of the impact of our choices on the environment and society as a whole.

“Watch Me Backflip” is a testament to Kozma’s creativity and dedication to sustainability in art. The exhibition will run until June 1 in Philadelphia, offering art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to experience Kozma’s innovative and visually striking creations.
