The tradition of celebrating artistry and creativity in Black hair has a long and storied history within the community. For 75 years, the Bronner Bros. International Beauty Show has been a platform for hairstylists to showcase their innovative and daring creations, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with Black hair. However, last year, the show took a pause, leaving a void in the beauty industry.

Stepping into this void is Echelon Noir Productions, a new player in the hair show scene, with their inaugural event titled “Black Hair Reimagined: The New Era of Beauty” in New York City. Spearheaded by beauty experts Jawara Wauchope and Jarrod Lacks, the show brought together a lineup of talented hair originators, stylist counterparts, and industry trailblazers to showcase their unique visions of beauty. With makeup directors Sir John and Sheika Daley, nail design director Dawn Sterling, casting director Liz Goldson, and creative movement director Stephen Galloway on board, the event promised to be a night to remember.

Hosting the evening was the iconic Tracee Ellis Ross, a beauty and fashion icon in her own right. Clad in an all-black ensemble with gold accessories and striking red boots, Ellis Ross brought her signature style and charm to the event. The front row was filled with notable guests such as Solange Knowles, Raul Lopez, Wayman and Micah, and Rajni Jacques, all eager to witness the imaginative and gravity-defying hair creations on the catwalk.

In a pre-show interview with Vogue, Ellis Ross expressed her excitement to be a part of the event, emphasizing the importance of showcasing the work of talented stylists and artists. As the founder of the natural beauty and hair care brand PATTERN, Ellis Ross understands the power of self-acceptance and self-expression through hair. She believes that in today’s landscape, there is a sense of freedom and liberation in embracing one’s natural hair texture and beauty.
