The Miami Marlins President of Baseball Operations, Peter Bendix, recently addressed the struggles of pitcher Sandy Alcantara amid trade rumors. Alcantara, who missed the entire 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, made his return in the 2025 season. However, he has had a rough start, giving up 24 runs in six starts since his return.

Bendix remains positive about Alcantara’s performance, stating that while he has been hit around on the mound, the pitcher’s velocity and physical condition are strong. He emphasized that the recovery process from Tommy John surgery is not always linear and that it may take time for Alcantara to regain his command on the mound.

Expressing his confidence in Alcantara, Bendix highlighted the pitcher’s past success as the 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner and expressed his belief that Alcantara will bounce back from his current struggles.

In response to his performance, Alcantara shared his frustration, stating that he feels physically good but is disappointed with his results on the field. In his most recent start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Alcantara gave up seven earned runs in just 2.2 innings, contributing to a 15-2 loss for the Marlins.

Despite his struggles, both Alcantara and the Marlins organization remain optimistic about his future performance. The pitcher is determined to work through his challenges and return to the level of success that earned him the Cy Young Award.

As Alcantara continues to navigate his return from surgery and adjust to the demands of the 2025 season, the Marlins will provide him with the support and patience needed to rediscover his form on the mound. With his talent and determination, Alcantara remains a key player for the Marlins’ pitching staff moving forward.
