A terrifying incident unfolded in an Orlando Walmart parking lot when a Florida woman, Veronica Jones, was almost kidnapped at knifepoint. The harrowing ordeal occurred on Monday afternoon as Jones was loading her groceries into her car after shopping at the store. A man, later identified as 54-year-old Juan Perez, grabbed her and demanded her purse and cash.

Initially, Jones thought it was a prank, but Perez escalated the situation by brandishing a knife and threatening to harm her if she didn’t comply. He pushed her towards the trunk of her car, with the knife held against her throat. Despite Jones fighting to keep her purse, Perez was determined to take it by force.

In a moment of desperation, Jones screamed for help, but Perez muffled her cries by shoving a glove down her throat. Fortunately, a brave bystander heard her plea and intervened, scaring off the attacker. The bystander later informed law enforcement that she saw Perez trying to push Jones into the trunk of her car.

As Perez fled with Jones’ purse, she lost valuable items, including her wallet, driver’s license, phone, and cash. Despite the traumatic experience, Jones was thankful for the quick actions of the good Samaritan who came to her aid.

The following day, Perez was arrested after a GPS monitor he was wearing from a previous crime placed him at the scene of the attempted kidnapping. His car was also identified in the parking lot during the incident. Perez, who was on federal probation for a prior kidnapping charge, faced multiple charges, including attempted kidnapping, armed robbery, and aggravated battery.

As a registered sex offender in Florida, Perez had a history of criminal offenses. He remains in custody at Orange County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 10th. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the courage of individuals who step in to help others in distress.
